How to use this page: draw a polygon on the map to calculate biodiversity summaries for that area. In comparison mode, draw both areas yourself, reuse the same mapped area to compare years, or copy Polygon 1 and drag the matching shape to another location.
The tool compares the drawn polygon with habitat-stratified random polygons of the same shape and size across the mapped University Estate. This helps show whether the selected area ranks high or low for biodiversity value and survey effort compared with similar-sized areas.
Biodiversity Index: unique species divided by total observation records. This helps adjust for variable survey effort.
